Biography

Christian Amatore obtained his PhD from Paris Diderot University in 1979 before moving to Indiana University in Bloomington. On his return to France to the CNRS and ENS, he occupied Louis Pasteur's former position as head of the ENS Chemistry Department. He is a member of the Academia Europaea, the Third World Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of the Chinese, Brazilian and Portuguese Academies of Sciences, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Chinese Chemical Society, Honorary Member of the Israeli Chemical Society, Emeritus Scientist of the Société Française de Chimie and Fellow of the ISE and ECS. He has served as Vice-President and President of the ISE, and was one of the twenty members of the French High Council for Science and Technology. He has been named Chevalier de l'Ordre du Mérite et de la Légion d'honneur and Commandeur de l'Ordre des Palmes académiques, and has received many important national and international awards and medals, including the CNRS Silver Medal, the ISE Gold Medal, the Plenary Lecturer prize of the ECS, the de Broglie prize of the Lincei, the Nanqiang prize of Xiamen University, the Faraday medals of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Lavoisier of the French Chemical Society, Volta and the ECS and Galvani of the Italian Chemical Society.
