Celebrating scientific excellence

Thanks to the generosity of private donors, state bodies and companies, the French Academy of sciences awards nearly 80 prizes each year, covering all fields of science, both fundamental and applied.

Many excellent candidates are considered for these awards. Their selection is made by juries operating under rules that exclude the possibility of conflicts of interest. Juries for prizes of less than €7,500, known as "Académie des sciences thematic prizes", are made up of members of the relevant sections.

The "grand prizes", worth more than €15,000, are the responsibility of specific juries, involving members of several sections or from outside the academy, if necessary.

All these prizes are awarded to the winners during solemn sessions under the dome of the Institut de France.
