Teaching and distribution

Learning to reason, access to knowledge and education in scientific methods are essential to the formation of citizens' critical minds, and is a key issue for the Académie des Sciences. It is as part of its mission to promote science education that the Académie is constantly working to produce resources and events to support science learning.

The Académie des Sciences' approach to science education aims to ensure that all students receive a high-quality scientific culture, which will be essential to them as citizens. This education must also enable the training of future researchers, engineers and technicians to ensure the renewal of a high-quality scientific community.

The Academy's activities in the field of science education are organized around two divisions, headed by the Delegate for Education and Training:

- The Committee on Science Education, set up by the Secret Committee on June 28, 2005, conducts in-depth reflection on the major issues in science education that the Academy wishes to address, often with the aim of taking a long-term view. It is made up of members from the Academy's various scientific sections, and meets once a month.

- The aim of the Education and Training Delegation is to keep abreast of current issues in science education and to promote the scientific approach. The delegation thus calls on all members of the Académie des sciences to form working groups to carry out targeted actions.

The Académie des sciences' thinking on science education aims to ensure that all students receive a quality scientific culture that will be indispensable to them as citizens. Our network to support education

Science is constantly evolving and is part of the culture of every citizen of our time. It is therefore important to raise awareness among the youngest children as soon as they start learning at school through the science education they receive, while trying to harmonize this education as much as possible at international level.

As part of its mission to promote science education, the Academy of Sciences is constantly interacting with national and international networks not only of academies but also of other bodies in order to make the best possible contribution to this harmonization.

Academicians' publications

The Académie des Sciences takes the mission of disseminating and teaching science very much to heart, so it's only natural that some of the work of our academicians is turned to the subject of education.

Look no further than our reports, notes and opinions on science education.
